Almost everyone has a horror story about trying some low fat recipe. Either the outcome was tasteless, bitter, or just plan terrible. While it is true that there is more than one low fat recipe out there that will make you want to run and hide, there are quite a few of them that are quite good. Here are some signs that may help indicate a recipe that will actually result in a tasty dish or dessert.

You will note that a good reduced fat recipe for an entrée will most likely be devoid of fat and will no involve frying. However, you will find that a blend of herbs and seasonings may be employed to give the entrée some zing. When preparing a low fat recipe for an entrée, you want to check for items that may be sautéed in a little olive oil, perhaps with a shot of wine. Alternatively, the item may be baked or broiled after being rubbed down with a blend of spices and perhaps use of a shot of lemon or pineapple juice to keep it moist and supple

Unfortunately, too many of us grew up thinking that the only way to prepare many vegetables was with a generous dollop of bacon fat. The fact of the matter is that you can still enjoy vegetable dishes that include spinach, collards, turnip greens, kale, and cabbage without adding in the fats. You can kick them up a notch by making use of garlic, onion, and other seasons as they are cooking down. When it comes to such things as limas, black eyed peas, and field peas, garlic and onion also help to add a dash of flavor that will help you forget there is no bacon grease anywhere near them.

You love that high fat content bean dip you get from the store? Whip up some hummus instead. Made from chickpeas, this low fat recipe can be seasoned with hot sauce, spices, or any other low fat alternative you like. Chickpeas, by the way, are good for your blood pressure.

Living a low fat recipe life does not mean you are banished to a world with no taste. It does mean you can take advantage of using herbs and spices to give your cooking a nice kick in the pants. Why not give it a shot today. Go out on the Internet and pick out one low fat recipe that uses spices and other alternatives; you may be on the way to a whole new way of enjoying your eating.
