There are all sorts of diets on the market today. For someone who is trying to figure out the best way to get back into shape and still get all the nutrients they need, the whole concept of dieting may seem like a confusing mess. However, there is one type of diet component that will be a good idea for just about everyone. That is the low fat diet

Unfortunately, there are several misconceptions about the low fat way of eating. These myths tend to put people off, and they never get to see the good that can come from limiting the fat content of the daily consumption of food. Here are a few of the more common myths, and how to avoid them.

First, low fat does not mean no fat. The fact of the matter is that everyone needs a small amount of fat in their diets. The idea is to make sure those fats are healthy ones that are likely to promote the production of good cholesterol while minimizing the chances for building up too much bad cholesterol in your system. Getting to know which cuts of meat and oils will provide you with the type of fat you need will open up some new doors on how to eat properly and not feel guilty.

Next, people tend to think that low fat means no taste. This is also untrue. While you may be cutting back on the friend foods or the meats that contain a lot of fat, you will son find that baking and broiling meats with a liberal sprinkling of herbs and spices will provide you with taste sensations that you never experienced before.  You can also use these same herbs and spices in preparing vegetables, rather than high fat meats for seasonings. The food will taste different, but it is very possible that you will find the finished product just as tasty, if not more so.

Last, low fat means no fun. Yes, it is true that you will need to make some adjustments. But at the same time, you will find that a low fat diet means opening yourself up to all sorts of new dishes. You may find that hummus works great as a dip, rather than high fat bean dips. It also can work great as a condiment that will help you cut down on using mayonnaise on  your sandwiches. In fact, you may find that before long, you are getting a lot more fun from your food, and enjoying life more in general. Give it a shot and see what happens.
